Abbey Road Property Group Leadership
Matthew Birenbaum
Matthew Birenbaum is the founding principal of Abbey Road. He brings twenty years of experience in real estate development in senior positions with some of the most highly regarded firms in the local area. From 2003 - 2006, he was Senior Vice President at EYA (formerly Eakin/Youngentob Associates), responsible for directing and supervising all activities in the land acquisition and development group for this award-winning builder/developer of architecturally distinguished townhomes and condominiums. Prior to his experience at EYA, Mr. Birenbaum spent over seven years at AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE:AVB) developing a wide variety of luxury rental communities in formats ranging from garden apartments to midrise with structured parking to highrise with ground floor retail and underground parking. Upon his departure from AvalonBay, he was Regional Vice President of Development with responsibility for the Washington, DC, New Jersey and Chicago regions. Earlier experience includes work with Tishman Speyer Properties in both Houston and Northern Virginia, developing residential, office and retail uses.
Consistent with Abbey Road's commitment to green building and smart growth, he is also a LEED-AP.
Mr. Birenbaum holds a Master of Management degree in real estate and finance from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he graduated with honors, and an undergraduate degree in urban studies from Brown University, where he graduated phi beta kappa. He serves on the board of the L'Enfant Trust, a historic preservation group in Washington, DC, and has been a guest speaker at numerous ULI and NMHC conferences.
Brett Goldberg
Before joining Abbey Road Property Group, Brett Goldberg was a Partner at San Francisco Sentry, a boutique investment company and family office. Brett was responsible for managing both domestic and off-shore client accounts in the alternative investment group. He was also instrumental to the long-term growth of Cypress Management, a distressed securities hedge fund. Prior to San Francisco Sentry, Mr. Goldberg served as Vice President in the institutional equity division at Dabney Resnick Imperial, a Los Angeles-based financial firm. Prior to his career in finance and investments, Brett had a seven year career at the Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG), where he worked and was a regional sales manager in the Boston, New York, and Los Angeles Metropolitan areas. Throughout his tenure at Procter & Gamble, Brett's experiences included numerous product launches, operational responsibilities for major consumer brands, and sales training for individuals in the management development program.
Mr. Goldberg has an undergraduate degree in economics from Brown University and an MBA in finance from New York University's Stern School of Business. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the South Shore YMCA Camps located outside of Boston and is co-chair of the Annual Fund Campaign. He coaches local community youth sports and lives with his wife and two daughters in the San Francisco Bay Area.
