SUMMARY
Avalon at Gallery Place was the first privately financed, new construction residential project to come to the east end of downtown Washington. The neighborhood has since blossomed into a thriving mixed use area, with most of the residential development that followed being condominium as opposed to rental. The building is located one block from the National Building Museum, and features a classical design which was subject to review by the Federal Commission on Fine Arts. The design of the retail space was closely coordinated to ensure its functionality, with high ground floor ceilings, offset columns, and a special ventilation shaft to allow for restaurant use. |
